About The Trainer
For starters, my name is Sydney. I got started with dogs kind of coincidentally. After a series of rough phases in my young "adult" life, I started building a more ideal life for myself piece by piece. When looking for a new job opportunity, I was looking for something laid back and stress free; somewhere I'd enjoy going every day. A doggy daycare down the road from me was hiring! I grew up with pet dogs my whole life and considered them family but never considered making a career out of it. I worked there for 3 or so years, and within that time I realized that although I loved working with dogs professionally - it was neither laid back or stress free! I realized I had a lot to learn. I became very familiar in body lanuage, different breeds and temparments, the fun side of dogs, and the not so fun sides.
Wanting to expand my knowledge of anything having to do with dogs, I started reading allllll the books, exploring different training approaches, learning things from the people around me, and sought out a job in the training world. When my own dog became reactive after he matured, training started to take on a much bigger role in my life.
I truly have learned so much from every single person I've met in this field. From bosses, to coworkers, clients, local vets, rescues, I could go on. I most recently left my position as the head trainer at a facility in the greater Twin Cities area. There, I was blessed to expand my knowledge on important foundational skills and techniques with so many different types of dogs. Being able to work with so many different breeds, temperaments, drives, individual strengths and weaknesses has taught me so much about the true uniqueness of each and every dog.
I strive to meet each dog and owner where they are at; tailoring my training to both so that the training sticks.
A lack of communication between dog and owner can be a common denominator in a lot of every day struggles - my goal is not only training the dog, but to train the owner as well to help everyone make positive change, together.
